Legislative Report: 2011

Protect Life Act

On October 13, after rejecting a hostile motion to recommit the bill to committee with instructions, the U.S. House of Representatives in a bipartisan vote approved the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358), 251-yes, 172-no. The roll call votes can be found at NCHLA’s Vote Track, where the votes can be searched by state delegation. See: nchla.org/keyvotes.asp.

The health care reform law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), was passed in 2010. The Protect Life Act (H.R. 358, S.877) would bring PPACA into line with abortion policies related to funding and conscience rights that have long prevailed in other federal health programs.

The companion bill in the Senate (S.877) was pending in committee at year’s end.
